The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) 2009 report entitled “Wake-Up Call” stated that rural communities are not growing along with the national economy and in fact, they are shrinking! With shrinking tax base, limited revenue sources and rapidly aging infrastructure, rural municipalities are struggling to provide the basic service and community facilities their communities need to attract and retain residents and businesses.

Achieving sustainable economic growth for many non-urban communities (rural, remote, Aboriginal, near urban) is now highly dependent upon their ability to attract and engage new markets for destination tourism.  Simply put, they need people traffic.  They need more people to get involved in non-urban recreational outdoor activities.

So if you want your community to be a vibrant and prosperous community in the 21st Century, you must allow our youth to invent and lead the change.

Our marketing consulting work for the Government of Trinidad & Tobago has shown us that the world is closer than you think.  Rural communities, small towns, remote villages are much like Trinidad; a small island in the middle of a big ocean and part of an even bigger world.  Trinidad & Tobago realized that their future is based upon their ability to leverage information technology to become recognized as a developed nation status by the year 2020 (a powerful vision) in order to become part of the global economy.  Small town and Aboriginal communities are rapidly becoming islands with no future unless they begin to think big.  Communities can no longer survive on local economies…they need a global presence.  This is the plan of TecVana…..
