Welcome

April 6, 2011

I have been following an interesting group on LinkedIn that ask the question: What do you think can be done to prevent the further decline in the participation of recreational fishing in North America?  The responses have been global and unmistakably express concerns about the decline offering many reasons as to why it is happening.  One thing that is for sure, the market has clearly changed.

We all know it is now a very modern connected world much different than just a mere 10 years ago and dramatically different than just 20 years ago. Today we live behind technology and in fact it can be argued that for many people, technology now manages their life and not the other way around. As for change, it is unstoppable! I have often heard it said that if you cannot keep pace with change, you will quickly be left behind. The fishing industry is being left behind!

So it is time to find new, innovative and creative ways to get people outdoors and into fishing. And that is what we are doing. We are using social media marketing and digital interactive real-life gaming to get our younger generation living behind computer screens and mobile devices, actively involved in the outdoors while at the same time giving the outdoor community and the tourism industry an opportunity to involve this market in developing user-created “cool” outdoor adventures that will appeal to their lifestyle thereby growing Geo-tourism, revitalizing the outdoor industry and helping redefine rural community purpose for a prosperous future. It is the beginning of a new wave. We need the help of everyone to help make this possible.  Get involved in TecVana, become empowered to make change and then make it happen.

As we have previously stated, today most of us care and are concerned about environmental issues and climate change. And if we are truly concerned about these issues, then we need to care about the future of the outdoors and rural society. Many small towns and villages that dot our rural landscape are the stewards of the environment. They manage our natural resources, the wilderness, nature and the great outdoors. They take care of our backyard. And if we don’t get out there and play in the backyard, it will disappear.

We need to unite in our drive for meaningful change!  The decline in recreational fishing is a symptom of a much bigger problem – the overall decline in getting a younger generation involved in the outdoors.
